Here is a quick list of F.A.Q. If you don’t see your question answered on here, please feel free to contact us anytime. We are happy to help!
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF MY TRIP?
All trips include your private guide(s) and the use of rods, reels, waders, wading boots, flies, and terminal tackle.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE COST OF MY TRIP?
We provide everything that you need except (1) Colorado Fishing Licenses, (2) Gratuity (3) Food & Drink
WHAT IS TYPICAL GRATUITY FOR A GUIDE?
Mountain Angler is proud to have the best/most experienced guide staff in the region. Gratuity is never expected, but always appreciated. If you feel your guide has done a good job, a common gratuity starts at 20% of the guide fee.
WHERE WILL WE FISH?
The Mountain Angler is permitted to guide on virtually all public waters in our area, including the Arkansas, Blue, Colorado, Eagle and South Platte Rivers, a dozen of smaller tributary streams and 4 major reservoirs After talking to your guide on the day of the trip, the guide will put together a plan to best suit your fly-fishing needs! Also, check out our wide variety of exclusive Private Water.
ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS?
We want everyone to enjoy fly fishing! That being said, learning to fly fish requires a certain level of strength, agility and patience. For our guided fly fishing trips, we have a RECOMMENDED minimum age of 11-12 YEARS OLD. We have found this to be the age where most youth anglers can (1) Safely wade the rivers, (2) Learn the basics (3) Enjoy their experience. This is not a strict policy as the age that each child is ready to fly fish can vary greatly. If your child is ready before then, we are happy to take them out!
HOW MANY GUIDES WILL I NEED FOR MY GROUP?
We like to keep all of our guided trips intimate and personalized. For that reason, we accommodate a maximum 3-to-1 angler-to-guide ratio on our wade trips. For the best possible experience (and highly recommended), many of our clients book an extra guide (2 guides for 3 anglers, 3 guides for 6 anglers etc.). Please Contact Us if you would like to book an extra guide.
CAN YOU GUARANTEE THAT I CATCH A FISH?
Nope! We cannot guarantee that you will catch a fish. Mother nature factors such as weather, water temperature and clarity and insect hatches vary greatly and affect your chances to catch fish. We can, however, guarantee that your guide(s) will work his/her hardest to put you in the best position to do so! While we cannot guarantee it, a high percentage of our anglers (including first timers) catch fish during their trip.
ARE TRIPS CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY?
Yes! Mountain Angler has a strict catch and release policy on our guided fly fishing trips. Trout are our “Business Partners” and catch and release is very important in ensuring the high quality fishing that our clients have come to expect!
WHERE DO WE MEET?
Most trips meet and depart from our shop located at 311 S. Main Street in Breckenridge, CO. Special arrangements can also be made for meeting elsewhere.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
See our Recommended Equipment List!
WILL MY TRIP BE CANCELLED FOR BAD WEATHER?
We fish rain or shine – if the weather is bad the catching is generally good! That said, if there is inclement weather that is a threat to your safety, we will always reschedule or refund!
CAN I BRING A NON-FISHING FREIND?
We do not discourage a non-fishing friend coming along. However, it is important that they are prepared for what to expect. If you plan on bringing a friend along let us know in advance. Bringing a friend along may impact where your guide plans to take you fishing. In order to ensure the best fishing, the guest may need to rent waders from us and come prepared with all the clothing an angler would need.
